Couture Fashion Week Spring 2016
This year, Couture Fashion Week presented its 23rd season runway shows from February 12th – 14th. I had the chance to see the fascinating collection presentation by two designers, Sushma Patel from India, and Fatou Ndene Ndiaye from Senegal. Two designers had different aesthetics, and let’s see each of them expressed their talent.
Designs by Indian designer Sushma Patel this season comprise a sense of cultural belonging. Color-wise, Patel chose to use ones preferred by the Indian culture, mahogany, gold, and some separate pieces in Navy blue. By separating the top with the dress to show the curves of the belly, the collection takes inspiration from Indian belly dance. Metallic embroidery and the unique draping detail of many garments emphasized femininity of the body shape. To me, this collection has just enough of cultural touch on modern event and wedding dress.
The design team of Sushma Patel has expanded its reach to decoration and designs to serve not only weddings, but also any social gathering and events. Sushma Patel’s designs is know to amalgamate couture and a touch of south asian flavor to create unique fusion art. No wonder this collection also contained small touches of fusion details.
The second designer of the night, Fatou Ndene Ndiaye presents a collection of modern mysteriousness. Cut in a tight and sexy silhouette, the dresses emphasized feminine curves of the body. Sequins are features in a stylish way scattering over the dress, giving them a glittering finish to be more suitable for night event.
