Day 2 of NYFW Men’s SS17 (First Vlog on Youtube!)
Hi fashionistas! The past few days was hectic for me, attending more than 15 fashion shows and presentations in three days, with after parties next. I finally have the time to slow down on Friday and Saturday to do photo and vlog editing. That’s right! Façhion Coma is launching its first vlog on Youtube on the second day of Men’s Fashion Week! When I say I do vlog, I take it seriously, so I think that my first vlog has got valuable content in high quality.
I started my first show of the day – Tim Coppens at 10. Moving on from its FW16 collection which featured brighter and shaper colors along with check pattern and the ACID print, Tim Coppens chooses to use more navy blue, white, and beige for this SS17 collection. The clean and masculine colors are favored by most men. Thumbs up for Tim Coppens for keeping the bright orange in this SS17 collection as it is a nice color to feature to make the collection stand out. Besides the usual trench and jackets, I absolutely adore the Samurai Clans and Mitsubishi Planes Jacket; the embroidery-like print abstractly displays oriental elements in fashion.
GARCIAVELEZ had one of my favorite presentation of the day. Among my favorites were the off white mesh knit sweater, A tri-color white banner is featured in many pieces of the collection, giving it a whole and unity throughout. The collection is also inspired by verdigris, the natural blue-green patina formed when metals are exposed to air and seawater, inspiring the blue/green-ish print on a few pieces. GARCIAVELEZ well played the theme of Construction and Deconstruction in its SS17 collection.
Robert Geller‘s show didn’t give me a chance to take too many photos, but all my favorite looks from the shows are on my YouTube video. The collection successfully delivered elements inspired by 1980s with splashes of neon, bubblegum pink, back and yellow shirts, and lime green pants. I really liked the yellow and brown stripe shirt and the bubblegum pink pants which could be worn with other pieces in quieter tones to highlight the outfit.
Robert Geller is a German-born, New York Based designer who looked for inspiration from the time before the fall of the Berlin Wall. Punk and New Wave were also incorporated into the design in the form of leopard print jacquards, velve vests, and safety-pin accessories.

Set up by Snarkitecture, STAMPD had a beautiful set design called “Against the Grain,” with a layer of thumbnail size black rocks on the floor as a mat. Military green, beige, brown and black are featured colors on the trench coats and the multiple-belt waist length jacket. Spotted in the show were model Sharina Gutierrez @sharinagutierrez wearing 3.1 Phillip Lim, Nathan McCallum @isnathan wearing pants from Joinchapter, and of course, president of CFDA Steven Kolb @stevenkolb.
N-p-Elliott‘s collection presentation used earthy tones and low key patterns. My favorite is the netted beige shirt with embroidered roses. It stands out from all the other pieces with its floral decoration.
Gypsy Sport presented its athletic in a combination of runway and presentation. Models walk the runway without stopping for an hour, giving the viewer multiple chances to see the outfits. Louder colors and cartoonized patterns strike through shirts and lace skirts. The collection elevates athletic garments with tassels and trims of lace. I really liked the cropped workwear trousers worn with high socks and the elongated button-down printed with a map of the world. Though the outfits can look overwhelming together, when we pull them apart, each and every single piece of the collection will be understood by us. Gypsy Sport seems to always design with in mind New York City as the background of the wearer.
Last show of the day was with Ovadia and Sons which also generously gave out a set of Men’s skin care goodies from Lab Series. I have yet to try the products but will hopefully do a review on it. For the upcoming collection, Ovadia and Son will continue the trend of green and orange bomber jackets. Orange hand dyed denim jacket carries the coherence of orange and black with other pieces in the collection. Roses are featured in the collection, embroidered either oversized white sirt or on the souvenir jacket. Also check out my blog post about Ovadia & Sons’ AW16 collection on Façhion Coma. Also spotted Kellan Lutz @kellanlutz and Eric Rutherford @mrrutherford9 at the show.
That’s it for my first day at NYFW Men’s! Stay tuned for the next vlogs about my third and fourth day at Men’s Fashion Week! Stay calm and fashion on…
