Hakan Akkaya’s autumn/winter 2017 collection revolves around the theme of “freedom”. Akkaya questions whether citizens have the freedom to live and think “as free as they want” regardless of their religion, race, language or sex. Burka-inspired one-piece jacket sharply contrasts with a topless model with a neck tattoo of “freedom” in Chinese to resonate with the theme of the collection.
There are menswear and womenswear pieces in this collection. By using black-and-white lined fabrics, the designer emphasises “sporty couture” in masculine and feminine silhouettes.
Black dominates the color of the collection. In contrast to the somber color, silver zippers and metallic seemed fabrics stiffens up the pitch-black material into a metallic form. The trendy velvet material is also present in many pieces to unite in harmony with elegance.
For womenswear, the collection features seen-through tops in metallic seemed fabrics to reveal the under-layer black lingerie. Paired with an oversized puffer coat and knee length boots, the style unites feminine elegance with a domineering aura.
Black knee-length dress features a closed collar, allowing the off shoulder dress and opening on the chest. Weavy frill detail softens the harsh black tone of the collection. Zipper outlining highlights the motion of the frill while matching with the metallic belted dress.
